cb_awards_winner_innovation_ingredients.jpgThe research and development company Mibelle Biochemistry, which belongs to the Mibelle Group, wins the "2013 cosmetics business award" in the "Innovation in Ingredients" category with its PhytocellTecTM Symphytum. This active ingredient activates the skin stem cells in the epidermis and thus accelerates the renewal of the skin. Mibelle Biochemistry develops and produces active ingredients that are sold to companies in the cosmetic sector around the world. With the new ingredient based on plant stem cells, the natural scientists have now notched up yet another success.
PhytoCellTecTM – the ground-breaking anti-ageing ingredient technology on the basis of plant stem cells
With PhytoCellTecTM Malus Domestica, Mibelle Biochemistry launched an entirely new active ingredient on the basis of plant stem cells of the Uttwiler Spätlauber apple. This apple has now acquired an almost legendary reputation. Entirely in accordance with the motto "inspired by nature realized by science", Mibelle has thus created a basis for combining nature and science so that new plant-based raw materials can be used in cosmetics and offer revolutionary results. PhytoCellTecTM Malus Domestica was the first cosmetic raw material worldwide on the basis of plant stem cells. It generated global interest and enthusiasm as soon as it was launched. The new active ingredient from apples was seen as ground-breaking because the vitality and efficiency of the most important skin cells, i.e. the skin stem cells, could be demonstrably improved for the first time with the use of plant stem cells. Mibelle Biochemistry won the European Cosmetics Innovation Prize for it at the 2008 in-cosmetics.

New milestone with PhytoCellTecTM Symphytum
PhytoCellTec™ Symphytum is an active ingredient that is based on stem cells of the comfrey root (symphytum officinale). It activates the skin stem cells in the epidermis and thus accelerates the regeneration of the skin. Symphytum officinale has been used as a medicinal plant for centuries. The name "symphytum" comes from the Greek word "sympho" ("to unite") and "phyton" ("plant"). In Ancient Greece, doctors used symphytum on bone fractures and to aid the healing of wounds. There is still widespread use of comfrey extracts today to treat wounds, bruises, strains and sprains.

Epidermal stem cells and their function
Epidermal stem cells are located in the lowest cell layer of the epidermis. They are continually dividing and are differentiated into skin tissue cells, whilst old cells are shed on the skin's surface. This constant renewal is important for the quality of the skin's barrier and ensures that the skin remains smooth and even. As we grow older, this renewal process slows discernibly as the skin stem cells also age and thus their ability to divide declines. The result is a thinner, dry and rough skin with a pale complexion.
With PhytoCellTec™ Symphytum, the skin stem cells are protected and activated at the same time. The skin regeneration is thus accelerated and the skin can regenerate better and more quickly. The result is a visibly smoother and radiant skin. The active ingredient increases the natural ability of the skin stem cells to reduce and repair the visible signs of ageing.
